Join Cindy Crosby, author of Tallgrass Conversations, to discover the history of the tallgrass prairie, explore the stories of its amazing creatures, and learn about native prairie plant uses.

Illinois' nickname is "The Prairie State!" But most of the tallgrass has vanished in the last 200 years. Listen to stories of the history of the tallgrass prairie as you marvel at beautiful images of its flora and fauna. Explore the stories of some of its amazing creatures - from dragonflies to birds to bison - and hear about native prairie plant uses from medicinal to alternative energy to home garden planting. Learn why people are the key to preserving these critical remaining places, as you discover why the tallgrass prairie is Illinois' landscape of home.

Presenter Cindy Crosby graduated from University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point in 2014 with her master's degree in natural resources, with a focus on environmental interpretation. She is a Master Gardener and Certified NAI Trainer with NAI for interpreters in natural and cultural history. As a prairie steward, Cindy helps manage and coordinate the work of volunteers on the fourth oldest restored prairie in North America. She is the author of Tallgrass Conversations: In Search of the Prairie Spirit (with co-author Thomas Dean, Ice Cube Press, April 2019), which will be available for sale at the event.
