Can't find an item? Try Interlibrary Loan (ILL)
Looking for a book, article, movie, or music and don’t see it in the catalog? Try our Interlibrary Loan service. If you have an Aurora Public Library card in good standing, you can request items from participating libraries across the country. You may request up to five (5) items per library card at a time.
Interlibrary Loan (ILL) is how the Aurora Public Library (APL) requests material or lends material to another library. The main purpose of this service is to provide materials to our customers that are not available at any of the Aurora Public Library locations.
What do I need to use ILL?
You’ll need an Aurora Public Library card in good standing to use this service. You can make your request in person at any APL location including the Bookmobile, or by calling 630-264-4121 or completing this form. To search and place the request yourself through our catalog, you’ll need an Aurora Public Library web account and PIN.
What if I forgot my PIN?
If you forget your PIN, please contact the Circulation Desk at (630) 264-4100, during regular library hours. We can reset your PIN.
Who do I contact if I have a question or problem with ILL materials?
You can call the Reference Desk, at 630-264-4101 or via e-mail
You can have five (5) interlibrary loans in process at any given time. This includes items requested, in process, and checked out. For example, if you have four (4) items checked out, or previously requested but not received, you will only be able to request one (1) additional item through Interlibrary Loan.
What materials can I request through ILL?
Video games, Blue-Rays, e-books, whole microfilm reels, and items published within the last six (6) months may not be requested.
How long does it take to get the item from ILL?
It typically takes 2-8 weeks to receive ILL items and prepare them for checkout. Out of state items can take longer. We will notify you if we can’t fill your request.
How can I see the status of my ILL request?
You can see the status of your request by logging in to your library account with your library card and PIN.
