Technology Assistance

Technology one-on-one sessions are a great way to get personal help with a specific technology issue. In these short sessions, you can bring a specific challenge or topic which you would like assistance or information on, and a library staff member will help get you started with some helpful technology tips.

To make a one-on-one appointment, call 630-264-4117. If you have any questions regarding one-on-one sessions, please refer to the following FAQ or contact us at 630-264-4117. We will respond within one (1) Business day to set up a time for the appointment.

How long does a one-on-one session last?
One-on-ones are scheduled to last from 20-30 minutes.

What help can you provide me?
Digital Services one-on-one sessions are focused on a single core concept, such as how to use Microsoft Word or how to create an email address. Some common topics include:

  • Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Creating an email address
  • How to find apps via Google Play or the App Store
  • Using the library website
  • Using library databases (i.e. Brainfuse HelpNow)
  • Using e-reader apps (Hoopla, Libby, Press Reader)

What help is unavailable through a one-on-one session?
While you can receive help on a wide variety of topics in an one-on-one session, there are exceptions, including:

  • Anything illegal or in violation of library policy
  • Filling out legal or medical forms
  • Tutorials on software unavailable through the library
  • Extended sessions lasting longer than 30 minutes

Library staff reserve the right to decline a one-on-one session for any reason and at any time.

Can you type a document (i.e. a job application) for me?
No, library staff cannot type for you. If you require assistance typing, we recommend asking a family member or friend for assistance.

Can you fix my device for me?
No, library staff cannot perform repairs on your personal device. We recommend bringing a broken device to the store you purchased it from or to a service such as Geek Squad.
