Are you one of the tens of millions of Americans who can trace a family member to Ellis Island? Learn about how and why immigration has changed and more with Immigration Attorney Omar Salguero.
Have you been to Ellis Island knowing a relative once arrived in this country at this very place? A sonnet by Emma Lazarus on the pedestal of the Statue of Liberty includes the line, "Give me your tired, your poor,/your huddled masses yearning to be free." Many learned this quote in school as a symbol of our immigration system, which continues to change. Immigration Attorney Omar Salguero will share contemporary immigration experiences and explore how and why immigration has changed.
Mr. Salguero was born in Venezuela and raised in Columbia. He worked for a variety of financial institutions in the Chicago area before he began his practice as an Immigration Attorney. He presided over the Latino Law Student Association and served as the Central Regional Director for the National LLSA.
This program is offered in partnership with the League of Women Voters Aurora Area.
