You can learn a lot about a city's history through studying its architecture. In this program with architectural photographer and writer Will Quam, we'll explore Chicago's history through its bricks!
Brick is everywhere, but it's never the same. It's so full of detail, pattern, color, and nuance. Before the Great Chicago Fire of 1871, Chicago was built mostly of wood. The fire burned down over 17,000 buildings and citywide building codes were changed to ban new wood buildings. By 1915, 10% of all brick made in America was made in Chicago. Chicago was transformed from a city of wood to a city of brick!
Will Quam is an architectural photographer, researcher, and writer. He leads a walking tour through Chicago neighborhoods called "Brick of Chicago".
