Join us for an evening with local author, Maureen McKane, to learn about local hero Wilbert Walters, longtime coach of the Aurora Sundowners Track Club.
Coach Walters, now 96 years old, was called a Living Legend in a 2022 Fox Valley Park District celebration of Black heroes. McKane's newly released book, Walters Way, explores the elements of his success through stories told in his own voice and the voices of his Sundowners. It's the story of being black and pursuing excellence in twentieth-century Aurora. His story will resonate with anyone who has fought to be heard, who has grappled with story of race in America, and who believes every child has potential.
A presentation and reading from Walters Way will be followed by an audience Q&A and prize drawing for a signed copy of the book! Snacks and refreshments will be available while supplies last.
Please join us in-person at Santori Library in Room 125/126 or virtually on Zoom. Passcode: Walters
