Changing Your Community Through Civic Engagement

This class will teach young people the tools that they need to make changes and support their community. Participants should plan to attend all three sessions of this class for maximum enjoyment.

Our public schools are not valuing civic education or placing enough emphasis on the importance of being civically-engaged (especially with the recent focus on STEM education). As a result, civic illiteracy is widespread among American youth with many dismissing democracy as a fundamentally unfair and ineffective system. Thus, there are two primary goals of this workshop series: to teach young students 1) why civic advocacy is important and 2) how to be a civically-engaged citizen.

This class is aimed at young people ages 11 and up. Participants should plan to attend all three sessions of this class for maximum enjoyment. Refreshments will be provided by the library. Registration is not required, but is encouraged.
