Learn practical, self-defense techniques and explore common concerns, including mobility challenges, situational awareness, and more with marital artist Peter Honingmann. Ages 65+.
In this program, participants will learn practical, self-defense techniques that are easy to learn and remember, as well as strategies for avoiding dangerous situations.
Peter Honigmann has been teaching self-defense to seniors throughout Northern Illinois since 2012. This program will include explanation and demonstration of a variety of defensive tactics and concepts dealing with common scenarios, including how to defend against a grab, push, or choke.
Honingmann will also discuss:
*how to use common items (keys, flashlights and pens) and canes for self-defense
*situational awareness
*verbal de-escalation techniques
*avoiding becoming a target

This branch shares the Eola Community Center buiding with the Fox Valley Park District. It offers a quiet reading room with a fireplace, study rooms and a family computer lab. The Eola Road Branch has public meeting rooms that may be used for community programs.
