Freedom Songs: The Music of Black History

From work songs, to Ragtime, Jazz, R&B, and the Civil Rights movement, Bright Star Touring Theatre will explore the compelling role of music in the history of Black Americans. Grades 3 - Adult.

In this performance, we'll get to know incredible Americans like Scott Joplin, Billie Holiday, Little Richard and more in a tale that is sure to intrigue audiences of all ages!

Bright Star Touring Theatre is a national touring theatre company based in North Carolina. Our mission is simple: to challenge, engage, and delight audiences all over the world. 

In 2003, Bright Star launched its first touring production of A Dickens Tale, our two-person version of the Charles Dickens classic “A Christmas Carol,” which was followed up with The Lady of Bullyburg in 2004. Seeing a need for more programming that told diverse stories, Bright Star began offering Black History shows in 2005, beginning with Heroes of the Underground Railroad. Now in our current season, Bright Star is excited to have programs touring all across the country – from the Florida Keys to the Seattle Space Needle.

• At 11:30 a.m., join us in the Atrium for our Juneteenth Crafts: DIY Bracelet & Suncatcher Flag program, suitable for all ages. 
• The Strawberries BBQ Food Truck will be parked in the public parking lot adjacent to the Santori Library from about 11:30 a.m. - 4 p.m. Food can be purchased directly from the truck and enjoyed outside the library. "Strawberries BBQ is a locally owned, family run food truck and catering purveyor featuring smoked meats, homemade sides and delicious desserts." - Strawberries BBQ
