Navratri is a Hindu festival celebrated for nine nights and ten days in honor of the goddess Durga. The festival is typically celebrated in the month of October and is marked by fasting, prayer, and the performance of traditional dances such as dandiya and garba. During Navratri, dandiya and garba events are held in many parts of India and around the world, providing a chance for people to come together, celebrate, and enjoy the festive atmosphere. These events are often accompanied by colorful decorations, traditional clothing, and music.
Dandiya is a dance form that originated in the Indian state of Gujarat and involves the use of small wooden sticks. The dancers, usually in pairs, move in a circular motion, striking their sticks together in time with the music. Garba is a dance form that originated in the state of Gujarat and involves a circular movement with the dancers clapping their hands in time with the music.
All ages are invited to dancing, and light refreshments and water will be provided to participants.
This branch shares the Eola Community Center buiding with the Fox Valley Park District. It offers a quiet reading room with a fireplace, study rooms and a family computer lab. The Eola Road Branch has public meeting rooms that may be used for community programs.
